If you look in your config/database.yml file, you are more than likely specifying localorganize as the database organize name, and you are most likely not supplying a password.

Using localhost immediately switches the link to a TCP link, and by default in postgres, TCP link auth technique is md5 (password required).

Here are 2 methods to solve:

Switch to UNIX Socket connection - If you’re simply running the postgres db in the exact same VM as Rails, you deserve to switch from TCP to UNIX Socket link by rerelocating localhold from the organize parameter in config/database.yml:

development: adapter: postgresql ... host: localhost ...to:

development: adapter: postgresql ... host: "" ...

Specify a Password: - If you need to affix over TCP, make sure the username you are making use of in config/database.yml is configured in postgres and also collection a password by connecting to the postgres db from the command also line and running:

ALTER USER postgres PASSWORD "myPassword";and then specify the exact same password in your config/database.yml file:

development: adapter: postgresql ... host: localhold password: "myPassword" ...
